Chikungunya

I got Chikungunya a year after contracting the Dengue fever.

Symptoms were almost similar to that of Dengue fever but I had a distinguished pain in my joints especially the wrists, fingers, ankles, metatarsals and lower back. The pain in the joints was so bad that for first 2 days I had to crawl out of bed to use the washroom as I couldn’t put any pressure on my hands or feet. I was also limping because of the pain in ankles and metatarsal.

Following the food pattern mentioned for dengue fever I recovered within 4 days from the fever and weakness but continued the food for 2 weeks to avoid any relapse as I had during my dengue fever. The joint pain stayed after 2 weeks too and continued for the next 2 months in which I was limping all the time. It was frustrating because the pain restricts your actions and further restricted my yoga practice. I tried researching a lot on it but nothing helped.

I had put on a lot of extra weight not because of Chickungunya but because of my dental nerve problem. Frustrated with more pain in my joints I thought of at least reducing the weight I had gained. I was following my own food regime for weight loss and the first step I took was to stop any and every form of sugar. After a month of following the no sugar diet all my joint pains disappeared. I didn’t lose weight drastically but around 3 kilos only because I didn’t follow a strict diet in regards with other food patterns.

I could very strongly feel the release of pain from my joints by restricting sugar in my diet. I don’t know how valid is my review but I think it can help. I would be happy to know more from other people’s experiences as to how they overcame their problem in joint pain due to Chickungunya and keep this as an open platform for discussion and exchange of ideas.

So all the best!
